The Leopardstown Golf Centre has been a permanent and important aspect of Irish golf since the 1960’s, when it was created in conjunction with John Jacobs, one of the father figures of golf in the modern era and acknowledged as one of the finest teachers in the golfing world.
For over four decades it has served as Ireland’s premier golf practice and tuition centre, providing thousands of golfers of all ages with their first introduction to the game side by side with club golfers striving for game improvement.
It also offers accomplished golfers an ideal environment for honing their skills away from the hustle and bustle of the competitive arena. Indeed, the hard work involved in winning championships on the domestic scene is often done under floodlights during winter evenings at the Leopardstown centre.
The Leopardstown Golf Centre is also home to over 2,000 lady golfers who are members of 25 golfing societies with playing rights on the pleasurable golf course situated within the race track.
All of this activity and the enormous growth in the game in Ireland have inspired dramatic changes which have established the Leopardstown Golf Centre as one of the finest facilities of its kind in Europe, run and staffed by a dedicated team driven by a passion for the game.
Situated in the heart of the famous Leopardstown race track, just a lob wedge from Foxrock village on Dublin’s southside, the Centre could not be better positioned to take full advantage of the convenience of the M50 for golfers travelling from any part of the city and surrounding areas.
An investment of €6m in recent times by Horse Racing Ireland, the owners and promoters, has totally transformed the Leopardstown Golf Centre into a state-of-the-art facility geared to meet the expectations and needs of golfers on all levels.
The centre incorporates a 74-bay floodlit driving range, including 10 floodlit bays on the second level exclusively used for golf tuition and 9 outdoor bays, all equipped with quality golf balls that are changed yearly and the latest ball dispensing technology.
The tuition service at Leopardstown is now provided by Impact Golf which comprises of 3 PGA Professionals: John Langan, Noel Fox and Hazel Kavanagh and they have been in place since 1st January 2018. They cater for all your tuition needs including individual lessons, group lessons, short game, on course playing lessons and can be booked for private rules or etiquette talks. They use the latest trackman technology and between them have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Please contact them at [email protected] or check out their dedicated page on our website.
We have a dedicated all-weather putting and chipping area which stretches over 500sqm and is now floodlit which leaves golfers with no excuse to practice their short game during the long winter evenings!
The purpose built 22,000 sq ft clubhouse incorporates a welcoming reception area, McGuirks Golf Store with it's state of the art custom fitting bay using Trackman Technology, Tier One Financial Services and our lovely cafe. The café can seat more than 80 people and has fantastic views of the golf course and Leopardstown Race Course with the mountains in the background.
A huge plus is the car park area which can accommodate well over 200 vehicles in generous spaces, almost twice the previous capacity.
Significantly, well over €400,000 has been invested in the upgrade of the golf course, including new greens, tees, bunkering, tree planting and the installation of a modern irrigation system. Yet, green fees remain affordable and the pricing structure makes the golf course very appealing, particularly to local offices and public houses wishing to arrange a competitively priced round on a mid-length course in a full service environment.
We have heavily invested in the drainage and sanding programme to the driving range which allows to remain open as much as possible in the worst weather conditions.
In December 2017 Alan Dunning was appointed General Manager of Leopardstown Golf Centre replacing the retiring Joe O’Connor. Alan joins Leopardstown following a long career in the golf industry where most recently he was manager of Citywest Golf.
“I am delighted to be joining a fantastic facility in Leopardstown Golf Centre. It really is the premium practice facility in Dublin and I look forward to showcasing that to all of our customers and hopefully a lot of new ones too. A lot of money has been invested by HRI in the driving range with new golf balls yearly, new mats and new machines. The continuous sanding and drainage programme is a huge benefit to the range and cannot be underestimated. It allows us to stay open when a lot of courses and other practice facilities are closed so golfers don’t get cabin fever!
The golf course has seen a lot of improvement too and our ladies golf societies are thriving. There is a great atmosphere in the golf centre every day and with all the facilities that are in place such as McGuirks Golf and The Wooden Spoon Café I am sure that will continue for a long time to come.
We are delighted to have a team of Golf Professionals that have such pedigree as John Langan, Noel Fox and Hazel Kavanagh who have set up Impact Golf at Leopardstown. They are a great addition to Leopardstown and offer the highest standards of tuition available anywhere.
A lot of emphasis is placed on Junior Golf and we are delighted to have so many local schools using our facility. We encourage them as much as we can as they are the future generations of the game. The Professionals run camps for kids during Easter and Summer time as well as giving individual lessons. The can be contacted at [email protected]”
